William Joseph Michels, also known as “Willie”, passed away on May 30, 2023 at the age of 72 in Naples, FL. Willie was born on March 12th, 1951 in South Bend, Indiana. He was a beloved member of his family, and a cherished friend to many.

Willie was a fun and outgoing person who loved to be around his friends and family. He was known for his mischievousness and playing pranks, which made him endearing to those who knew him. Willie lettered in football and baseball at the Indiana School of the Deaf (ISD). He was a long-time member of the Greater Indianapolis Deaf Club (GIDC), serving as house manager for a few years. Willie was also a member of the Hoosier Outdoor Club of the Deaf (HOCD), attended Hoosier Deaf Men’s Camp for 15+ years, and was involved in many Vaudeville shows. He was fondly remembered by his friends as the life of many parties.

Willie attended the Indiana School of the Deaf (Class of 1970) for both his primary and high school education. In addition to his love of sports and involvement in the Deaf community, he also loved doing handyman and construction work and would help anyone out that needed him.

Willie was survived by his daughters Jennifer (Joey) Kutcka and Tracy Jo Michels, his brothers Jeff (Kimber) Michels, Bobby (Dawn) Michels, Dan Michels, his sister Betty Holden, Terry (Rick) Michels- sister-in-law, nieces Kelsey (Austin) Kirton, Anne (Joe) Schnatterly, Katie (Juan) Lopez, Shelly Holden, Kristin Michels, nephews Michael (Janet) Holden, Brian (Rebecca) Holden, Jimmy Michels, Justin Michels, Eddie (Melody) Michels, Kent Supancik, and Jay Michels, and several great-nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his wife Diane (Overlander) Michels, his brother Richard Michels, his father Richard F Michels, and his mother Berniece (Harris) Michels, as well as his nephew Daniel T Michels.

Willie will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
