September 13, 1955 – October 24, 2023
Terez (Teri) Peter of Naples, FL, went to sleep at Avow’s Frances Georgeson Hospice house on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 after a short, but courageous battle of cancer. Never one to give up, Teri fought her foe with grace, courage, and dignity. Chemotherapy provided temporary relief at times, but the disease continued its unyielding progression.
Terez was born September 13, 1955, the daughter of Mihaly Mate and Borbala Mate in Kelementelke, Transylvania. She immigrated to the United States in 1982 and lived in the suburbs of Cleveland, OH until she relocated to Naples, FL in May of 2018.
She loved Florida’s warm weather and lived her life to the fullest. She loved her job as a hair stylist and her customers. She was passionate about gardening and animals and enjoyed sewing. You would often find her walking in her community and feeding the little ducklings. Teri had a vibrant personality and a big heart. She made countless friends throughout her life and her sweetness and kindness will be remembered by many.
Terez is survived by her sister, Irma Benning of Germany, and many nieces and nephews in Europe.
She was preceded in death by her parents Mihaly and Borbala, her brother Andras, and her sisters Rozalia, Maria, Borbala, and Ilona. Terez was also preceded in death by her two cats, Princie and Snowball. She adored them and was heartbroken after they passed of old age.
Terez’s friends would like to thank, and commend, the Physicians Regional Hospital staff, her physicians and the Avow staff. Additional gratitude to Rev. Peter Pal Bodor of the First Hungarian United Church of Christ of Miami, who visited Teri before her passing.
Terez Peter will be remembered for her kindness, dedication, and unwavering love for everyone around her. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. R.I.P. “Nyugodj csendesen!”
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at 10 AM in the Chapel of Naples Funeral Home located at 3107 Davis Boulevard, Naples, Florida 34104.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the West Side Hungarian Reformed Church, 13500 Puritas Ave., Cleveland, Ohio 44135 in Terez Peter’s honor.

Teri (Terez) was my best friend for over 40 years. We were like sisters; We had fun, we laughed, we cried, we disagreed and fought at times, but we always stuck together and looked out for each other. I’ll miss our weekend BBQs, the holiday cooking and get together, but there is always going to be an extra chair at the table. I cherish all the memories of our friendship and you will always be in my heart. You are in Heaven now and looking down on us from God’s eternal light. I love you and miss you and I will see you again on the other side! R.I.P. girlfriend!

My heart is broken hearing of my friend Terez’s passing. She was my neighbor for 5 years. I loved her feisty attitude but yet so sweet. I was devastated when she told me she was sick. God has her in his everlasting arms now. Miss you my friend. ❤️ Cheryl Beshears

Terez was my neighbor since arriving here in Naples.
I always saw her walking and feeding the ducks behind her home.
She did my hair sometimes at the salon.
I just learned of her passing. My deepest condolences to her family and friends.
May she rest in peace. I am so sad to learn of her passing and sudden illness.

I was blessed to have this beautiful, & God filled woman as my friend and hairdresser for over 25 years.
I am saddened by the news of her passing, but know that she is looking at the face of God, in eternal glory!
