July 25, 1941 – May 14, 2021

Carol Ann Durgin was born on July 25, 1941 in South Boston, MA. She was married to John (Al) McGuirk (deceased) and they had a son, Sean Michael. The family left South Boston for Holbrook, MA and then built a home in Easton, MA. Eventually, she moved to Braintree, MA until she made her move to what she referred to as Paradise: Naples, Florida. Carol was the older sister of Deborah (deceased) and the aunt of Ryan Mofford. Her grandsons are Sean (Miggy) and Michael.

In the early years of her marriage, Carol and Al moved to Germany, as her husband was a soldier. She often spoke of her time overseas, and kept in touch with many friends she made in Germany during the 1960s. When she returned to the United States, Carol became the Executive Assistant at Stone and Webster, Inc. she moved on to the Gillette Co., and retired from The Massachusetts State Lottery.

After retiring from The Lottery, she often told people she hit her own lottery by moving to Naples, Florida. There, she made many new friends and had her ol’ Southie friends visit her to enjoy the southern hospitality. Living there since the 1990’s, Carol was often known as ‘The Welcome Wagon’ to anyone new to Naples. She participated in Karaoke Time in the area. Favorite songs such as Sweet Caroline and Trailers For Sale or Rent were always a remembrance of her humble beginnings in Boston. She will always be remembered for her kindness, her smile and thoughtfulness toward others. Carol’s friends often said she should have been a party planner. So many of her family members and friends agree: Carol would give a stranger her last penny.

Carol’s special companions in later life and in her final days were her beloved dogs. Her Yorkie Archie Mo will miss Mother Carol.

Sean, hope you remember me as I’ve known your mom since 1970 and worked with her at Stone and Webster. I’m so saddened to hear of her passing. Carol was such fun and such a sweetheart. The last time I saw her was in Naples and stayed at her beautiful condo.
I hope you are doing well and sending my deepest sympathies. Carol will be greatly missed. RIP my friend.

I was a neighbor of Carol’s in Avion Woods. She and I were part of the group of original owners. Carol was very outgoing and reached out to me when I first moved in. RIP my neighbor and friend!
