Mrs. Patricia A. Young Ziolkowski
October 1, 1930 – August 2, 2020

Passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on Aug. 2, 2020 at an undisclosed age, rumored to be just a few days past 49 years of age. Pat was the daughter of Adeline (Thompson) and William Young of Johnstown, PA. After earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and varsity letter for basketball at University of Pittsburgh, Pat worked in Hollywood, Florida where her parents also resided. Pat later moved to New York City to work in publishing, where she met her husband John Ziolkowski on a ski trip. They settled in Jackson, MI where they raised their five children, Mari, John, Peter, Jim and David. Pat was also active in local drama productions at Queen’s School where she and Mari had leading roles in The King and I. Pat and the family were vibrant members of the Clark Lake Yacht Club where she cheered on her husband’s sailing races. After retirement, when she and her husband wintered in Vail Colorado, Pat enjoyed volunteering at the local Emergency Room. After John’s passing in 2005, Pat traveled between her home at Clarklake, Michigan and her place in Naples, Florida. Pat also enjoyed long train trips to Chicago and New York City to attend buildOn Galas. She sang beautifully in the choir at St. Rita’s Catholic Church, Clarklake, Michigan and was an active member of St. Williams Catholic Church in Naples, Florida. Pat had a laughter filled relationship with her brother Ron, and was happiest socializing with family and friends. She loved playing cards with her grandchildren and children. Pat was an avid community volunteer, skied well into her 70’s (lol) and maintained her youthful enthusiasm and beauty until her last moment.

Although Pat has passed on to God and Glory, and a place where the flowers are taller and children’s laughter is louder, she will be sorely missed by her family, friends, neighbors and children she delivered smiles to.

Pat is survived by her children, Mari (Mary), John, Peter (Teresa), Jim (Jenny) and David; her grandchildren Jane, Alex, Sam, Ted, Max, Zachary, Jack and Quinn. In lieu of flowers please plant or pick a flower in honor of Pat, and/or make a monetary contribution to St. Rita’s Church in Brooklyn, Michigan or buildOn at buildOn.org -an organization that Pat supported for 29 years.

Family will gather for Funeral Mass at St. William Catholic Church on Tuesday, August 4, 2020. Eulogy will be at 9:45am, and Mass will start at 10:00am.

Patty was my cousin. I looked up to her as a positive influence. My memories of her go back many years to Grandma Thompson’s living room. She was so beautiful with long blond hair and old enough to wear lipstick. I remember the dark lipstick. My next recollection is when we attended a family reunion. I enjoyed seeing her and chuckled how, even at her age, she wore a perky blond ponytail. She wore it well. I, now into my 80’s think of her often as I pull my own hair into a pony tail. I loved her.

In trying to reconnect with my father’s side of the family, I came across this notice. I was so sorry to hear of Pat’s passing. I have fond memories of her and family visits in Johnstown, PA. My father, Charles “Chick” Young was the brother of Pat’s father, Bill. I would love to catch up with the rest of the family if anyone wanted to reach out.
