Mr. Thomas Hamilton
July 3, 1924 – December 14, 2020

Thomas A. Hamilton, 96, of Naples, FL, formerly of Herrin, passed away on December 14, 2020, at his home in Naples with his son Glenn at his side. Tom was born on July 3, 1924, in Herrin to Whitzel and Mamie (Avooske) Hamilton. He married Audrey Russell on July 26, 1946. She preceded him in death on March 23, 2015, after they shared almost 69 years of marriage.

Tom graduated from Herrin Township High School in 1942. He served in the US Army during WWII from March 1943 to November 1945. In 1950, Tom and his family moved from Herrin to Florida where they settled in Naples.

Survivors include his son, Glenn (Michelle) Hamilton of Black Mountain, NC; four grandchildren: Daniel (Sarah) Hamilton of Naples; Michael (Jera) Hamilton of Naples; Lindsay Prince of Portland, OR; Chloe (Ian) McIsaac of Greenville, TN; five great-grandchildren: Katherine Hamilton, Cole Hamilton and Jaycee Hamilton, all of Naples; Zander Prince of Portland, OR, and Kian Prince of Gainesville, FL; daughter-in-law: Linda Hamilton of Naples; sister: Helen Hamilton of Herrin; brother-in-law: Donald Russell of Herrin.

He was preceded in death by his wife; son, Tom Allen, in 2019; parents; brothers: Steve, Bennie, Richard, and David; and infant siblings: William and Margaret.

Due to COVID travel restrictions, a Private Committal service will be at Egyptian Memorial Gardens in Herrin, IL. A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at a later date. Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin is assisting the family with arrangements.
