Lawrence “Larry” Fox

April 5, 1954 – October 2, 2023

Lawrence (Larry) Fox passed away on October 2, 2023 from complications of radiation treatment for a head-and-neck cancer. No one has fought a more valiant battle than Larry; strong until the end in mind and heart, until his body couldn’t hold him anymore. He leaves behind to mourn his loss his devoted, loving wife Carmen, whose care for Larry over these years was a comfort beyond measure. His twin sisters, Diane and Doreen, walked beside Larry and Carmen throughout countless doctors, specialists, appointments, etc, from the beginning over six years ago, and were honored to do so. Larry also leaves behind his heartbroken dad, Norman, and his beautiful children and grandchildren, Kara, Patrick and Kelsey; and the little ones, Pearl, Coralai, Hazel, Oscar, Piper, Jasper and Gordon; his loving niece, Corinne and great-nephew Trenton. The support from Lyla, Ana, Ken, Ralph, Steve, countless friends and the almighty Rugby world has meant everything to Larry and family. Larry was predeceased by our beautiful mom/wife/nanny Sarah (Sue) Fox only 9 short months ago. We can’t imagine the celebration they had when Larry arrived. They are cracking each other up again.

Coach Fox lived and breathed rugby. His extensive background, his accomplishments (inducted into the Monmouth Rugby Football Club Hall of Fame, to name one), worldwide travels (is how he met his beloved Carmen) and the everlasting bond of the sport and camaraderie is unmatched.

Services are at Naples Funeral Home, 3107 Davis Blvd., Naples this Saturday, October 7, 2023, 1:00p.m. to 4:00p.m., with the repast immediately following.

In lieu of flowers kindly consider a donation to your favorite charity.

“Now cracks a noble heart. Good night, sweet prince, and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest”.

Our deepest condolences to the Fox family. I joined Monmouth rugby club in 1993 and heard stories of the infamous “Foxy” for years. Legendary status as a player, a person and a lifetime love for Rugby. I finally met Larry on tour in Ireland in 2010 or 2011. It was as if we were friends for years. I also believed he may have carried me home from the pubs at least once possibly twice. We had such a great time and stayed in touch ever since. He will be missed but I know he is watching from above. As Monmouth rugby celebrates its 50th anniversary this year we cherish the contribution Larry made to the club and to the Monmouth family!

We will miss you Foxy!

Larry. The lads who have posted have already said what I wanted to say. I will say I will never forget meeting your for the first time .. literally, when the club I was with (Montclair) played Monmouth. I was selected to play hooker and I heard at practice about the legend I was up against. Well, the match was hard fought, ended in a tie and we were honors even in scrums. We got to meet at the party and our friendship started there.

It turns out Monmouth played in summer soccer league to stay fit. Foxy found out I played and I invited me to join. I did and got to know the lads. We didn’t win a lot (or at all) but we had a blast. I decided to join Monmouth that Fall in 1982 and have been there ever since. You were one the first to make me feel welcome and we have friends since.

I am so sorry that you have left us but I’m sure when the time comes we’ll be see in each other again on the big field up there.

Only this time I’ll probably be reffing

Deepest condolences and sympathy to your family!

A Great Person on and off the Field. As a new player at Monmouth, he was our Hero as a Team Leader, for On Field Play, Drinking a Beer Standing on his Head at the Party, Telling a Story and Making us Believe We Could Win!

I have prayed for him since I heard of his illness. St. Peter, Yes the Angels and Saints are going to be drinking a beer upside down!

Wisdom 3:1-9
The souls of the just are in the hands of God, and no torment shall touch them. They seemed in the view of the foolish to be dead, and their passing away as an affliction and their going forth from us utter destruction, but they are in peace.

For if before men, indeed they be punished, yet in their hope full of immortality; Chastised a little they shall be greatly Blessed, because God tried them and found them worthy of Himself.

Larry, Until We Meet Again My Friend.

A brilliant character and team mate. Always there to help, crack a joke or just be a great friend and team mate. He played rugby like he lived life…tough, thoughtful and loving.
And he never quit loving or living bravely.

Hi Larry-
You and Mr Wilcox, what a pair. Enjoyed playing for years/decades with you on the field. Did NOT like playing against you in Florida when the team you coached was short and you filled in. Destroyed your opposite # in the sets like the Monmouth legend you are.
My sincere condolences to Carmen & the Fox family.
cheers john
PS looking forward to sharing more stories when I catch up with you in HEAVEN.
