It is with great sadness that we announce the passing on February 16, 2025, of Daniel Theodore Newhouse Jr., a beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, and friend. He was born in Clifton,New Jersey on December 22, 1936, to Daniel and Marie Newhouse. He attended Hackensack High School and served in the Army and Reserve from 1956 to 1962. Danny’s professional career spanned over 50 years. He and his brother ran The Fireside Inn, a successful family restaurant and catering hall in Rochelle Park, New Jersey, and he and his wife later ran The Stonybrook Inn, a staple in Newton, New Jersey.
A true enthusiast of life, Danny enjoyed hunting, boating, cooking, golfing, fishing, reading historical fiction, and he was always the first one up for a spin around a dance floor. His passion for the outdoors led him to spend countless hours teaching his children and grandchildren how to fish, sail, and garden at our home in Swartswood Lake.
Danny shared a love for travel with his wife, Millie, and they always had new adventures together.
He had a special way of making those around him feel seen and appreciated, offering a listening ear or a helping hand. One of his greatest joys in life was gathering his family around the dinner table to share stories and dine on one of his fabulous meals, ending with his one-of-a-kind apple strudel.
Rest in peace; your smile will continue to shine in our hearts.
Danny is survived by his beloved wife, Millie, his brother David (Barbara), his children Sandy, Diana (Patrick), Danny (Crystal), Ben, Dawn (Bob), and Sean, his grandchildren, Cassandra, Michael, Madison, Troy, Hunter, Danielle (Louis), Bryan, Peyton, and CJ, his great-grandchildren, Hudson, Theodore and Stellalou, and his nephews Brian and David, along with many friends.
A celebration of life for family and friends will be held at Swartswood Lake in the summer.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
