Ellery Casey

Ellery E. Casey, age 76, long-time resident of Chicago and southwest Florida, died at his Naples home on March 15, 2023. He was born on March 13, 1947 in Oak Lawn, Illinois to Gene E.
Casey and Mary J. Casey (nee Krupa) (both predeceased).

He grew up in Oak Lawn, Illinois, attended Marmion Academy (Aurora, Illinois) and then Brother Rice High School in Chicago, and graduated from Marquette University in 1969 with a
degree in economics. He will be forever remembered by friends and family as adventuresome, generous, and entrepreneurial.

Ellery’s adventuresome qualities were evident from his days touring Europe alone on a motorcycle, becoming an independent commercial pilot and later flight instructor at Midway
Airport, cruising and fishing Florida’s waters, or spending weeks at an Alaskan fishing lodge. As a long-time resident of Ft. Myers, friends will remember his many fun and enjoyable late-
night dinner parties. Ellery’s company was never a dull moment.

He was generous to a fault with relatives, friends, and service providers. In addition to spending time teaching at an inner-city Chicago school after college, Ellery supported and assisted the livelihoods of many unable to do so. He always had a friend’s or relative’s “back” and everyone knew you could count on Ellery for help.

He co-founded Casey Tool in 1978 and Lock Technology (a.k.a. LTI) in 1986. Both companies specialized, and Ellery personally oversaw, the design and development of specialty automotive
tools sold to mobile tool dealers and warehouse distributors with international sales. From the initial days of selling its original “Slim Jim” product on Chicago streets in the 1970’s, the
company grew to be a well-known and respected industry leader with a diversified product line until its 2022 sale to Chicago-based Milton Industries.

Ultimately, Ellery would most want to be remembered as a good friend and “one of the guys.” He is survived by his wife, Laura Dion-Jones Casey, brothers Wayne (wife Louise) and Greg
Casey, life-long friends such as Mike O’Connor, and numerous nieces and nephews. Ellery was preceded in death by his aforementioned parents and twin-brother Allan.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks those to express their sympathy by considering a donation in Ellery’s honor to Mercy Home for Boys and Girls (Chicago) online (mercyhome.org) or by
contacting its Associated Director of Philanthropy, Beth Lye (312-738-4381, [email protected]).

A celebration of life will be conducted privately.
