Janice Ann Price Surratt, 83, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2026, in Naples, Florida.

Janice was born on November 16, 1942, in Springfield, Illinois, to Harold E. Price and Dorothy Cleo Harvill. At the time of her birth, her father, Harold, was overseas serving in the military during World War II. When Dorothy brought newborn Janice home from the hospital, mother and daughter lived with Dorothy’s sister, Dora Jean “Jean” Harvill Curtis Spiegel, until Harold returned stateside. It was the beginning of an extraordinary lifelong bond between Janice and her Aunt Jean, who would remain a constant source of stability, comfort, and love throughout Janice’s life.

On July 29, 1960, at just 17 years old, Janice married the love of her life, Robert Leroy Surratt, in Jacksonville, Illinois. Together, Janice and Robert built a beautiful life and shared 63 years of marriage before Robert’s passing on October 20, 2023.

Janice and Robert made their first home in Chapin, Illinois, where they lived until 1970, when they moved their family to Peoria in Central Illinois. After many years in Peoria, they moved to Fort Myers, Florida, in 1988, where they embraced the sunshine and warmth of Southwest Florida and made it their home.

Janice found great meaning in work that allowed her to serve and care for others. She served as Volunteer Services Coordinator at Health Park Hospital, and later as Admissions Director of the Shell Point Nursing Pavilion where she remained until her retirement. Her professional life reflected something that came naturally to Janice—welcoming people, helping others, and making those around her feel cared for.

In her final years, Janice was an active and beloved resident of Bradford Square Retirement Community. Fittingly, she served as an Ambassador to new residents, extending to newcomers the same warmth and friendship that defined her throughout her life.

Janice knew how to have fun. She loved playing cards—Hand and Foot, Canasta, and Euchre—shooting pool with her fellow residents, and she never missed the weekly poker game. She loved people, laughter, friendship, and being part of a community.

Janice was loved by all who knew her. Her smile could light up a room, her laughter was contagious, and she always had a hug for anyone who needed one. She had a gift for making people feel welcome and loved, and that warmth remained at the heart of who she was throughout her life.

Above all, Janice treasured her family and the life she and Robert created together. Her family will remember her not simply with sadness at her passing, but with gratitude for the joy, laughter, love, and countless memories she leaves behind—a life well lived and deeply loved.

Janice was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Leroy Surratt; her parents, Harold E. Price and Dorothy Cleo Harvill; and her grandson, Domenick Surratt.

She is survived by her daughter, Tamara Surratt; her son, Rick H. Surratt, daughter-in-law Marla Surratt; her grandsons, Noah Surratt, Tristan Surratt, Adrian Surratt, and Brandon Medford; nine great-grandchildren; and her beloved Aunt Jean Spiegel, now in her 100th year of life. From welcoming Janice and her mother home when Janice was a newborn to remaining a treasured presence throughout the decades that followed, Aunt Jean was a constant source of stability, comfort, and love in Janice’s life. She also leaves behind extended family and many dear friends whose lives were enriched by knowing and loving her.

Janice told me later in life that I introduced her to Bob. I don’t remember that. She was a special person. May your memories give you some peace and comfort.
