August Muschitiello known as Gus passed away in Naples, Florida at age 66 on February 11, 2025 after a two year battle with Glioblastoma. He will be missed deeply and always remembered by those who knew him.

He is survived by his wife Renee, his sons Dylan, Sean, and Kyle; daughter-in-law Victoria; Grandson Cassian August; and his adopted daughter Catherine. He is also survived by his sisters, JoAnn VanDett, Antoinette Adams, and Carol Ann Talanian, his nephews Chris, Eric, Keith, and Stephen. He is preceded in death by his parents Mary and Vito Muschitiello, and his nephew Cody.

His hobbies included playing pool, opening the gym for a workout before catching the 6 am. train, watching MASH*, and sharing his love for collecting tattoos, comic books, and attending concerts with his children. He bought dinner at King Kullen for his wife Renee for 12 years. His love for music spans for decades Gus was a fan of bands like The Allman Brothers, The Doors, Volbeat, Godfrey Townsend, and many others.

Gus was raised in Ridgewood, Queens and always told the stories of the epic New Years Eve parties in his childhood basement. He graduated from Thomas Edison HS in 1977 and began his career as an apprentice in plumbing, until he joined the NYC Transit Authority in 1981. He raised his family with his wife in Levittown, NY for twenty three years. For years he focused on reconnecting with grade school friends, finding the Ridgewood Reunion Facebook group & attending their reunions. Gus retired in 2017 as ‘Maintenance Supervisor, Third Rail Operations’. His bond with his crew members and long term friends started on day one and endured over his 36 year career. He spent his retirement years relaxing in sunny South Naples, FL.

Gus did not deserve the hand he was given but we cherished the life we shared with him. He did everything right for his friends, family, and loved ones.
